Stranda - Norway's cradle of furniture industry

Stranda

The so-called «furniture adventure of Sunnmøre» started when the 16 year old farmer's son Peter I. Langlo attended a basketry course in Stranda in 1908 and produced his first chair.

The so-called «furniture adventure of Sunnmøre» started when the 16 year old farmer's son Peter I. Langlo attended a basketry course in Stranda in 1908 and produced his first chair. A couple of decades later, the factory P.I. Langlo's Fabrikker was Scandinavia's largest furniture producer with 120 employees. The success was "infectuous", and it is said that the basement of every second house in Sunnmøre soon had a furniture factory.

Norway's most internationally recognized furniture designer, Peter Opsvik, comes from Stranda. He has designed the famous Tripp Trapp chair, which is produced by Stokke. With more than 10 million units sold, this is the best-selling chair in Norwegian furniture production.

At Cylindra Gallery in Sykkylven, you can experience some of the most characteristic furniture Norway has to offer, in beautiful surroundings by the fjord. With Peter Opsvik's design, you can be seduced into a reflection of Norwegian nature and spirit through these truly unique objects. Here you will find cupboards, chairs and tables with a strong artistic look.

The furniture factory Slettvoll is also located at Stranda. Slettvoll has developed an exclusive brand for furniture and interior designs, and has its own concept stores in Norway and Sweden. Stranda is also the home of the wardrobe manufacturer Langlo, which is also in the first division among Norwegian interior suppliers.
