Stryn Møbelindustri (furniture industry) AS was founded in 1939, followed by the furniture factory Tonning Møbelfabrikk AS a few years later, in 1946. This has contributed to Stryn becoming an important furniture district. Both of them acted as each other's sparring partners towards a genuine furniture identity, characteristic for the region of Nordfjord. The two companies were merged in 2013, and will bring this heritage forward with the brand Tonning & Stryn.

Telling their story themselves, the manufacturers reveal the following:

History starts with the wood. From its small sprout in the forest, it continues all the way to the finished furniture where people sit, touch and rest. A timeless story in both ends.

Wood is the material. Flame birch and oak – solid and well-known raw materials with qualities that take time and knowledge to be familiar with. Only superior craftsmen with a deep interest in woodwork are working with us. They know how these materials behave and how to best work on them. In cooperation with Norway's most skilled furniture designers, the best way to describe the process is as a conversation between the designer and the wood. Each of them wants to say something to each other. This is how long-lasting and valuable furniture is made.
